Biography

Joanne Mung is a young woman who lives part of the time in Warmun and Frog Hollow with her own family and part of the time at Wave Hill, across the Northern Territory border, with her husband's family. She has two young children and is considered one of the most promising young painters at the Warmun Art Centre.
Joanne learnt to paint from her father, renowned Warmun artist Beerbee Mungnari who taught his three daughters,Marika, Denise and Joanne the art of crushing and mixing ochres to make their own paints. Unlike Marika and Denise who have closely followed their father's distinctive style, Joanne has developed a style of her own and produces original and varied canvases that are in high demand.
Joanne produces relatively few paintings compared to other East Kimberley artists and all her paintings are carefully considered, showing a natural flare for mixing colours and a quirky approach to the Ngarrankarni (Dreaming) stories she is entitled to paint through family connections.
