Details of Julice Ajiro (Avami)
About
Julice has been fortunate as she learnt many traditional barkcloth designs from the female elders of her village before they passed away, including Mary Naumo (d.2004) and her mother-in-law Uveyvo Ajiro - both of whom are revered barkcloth artists. She is now well-versed in many important Emate clan designs such as nuni'e - the design of the eye, odunaigo'e - jungle vines and buboriano'e - beaks of the Blyth's Hornbill. She has also been taught designs from her husband, the master Emata clan songman Mackenzie Ajiro. Together they have four children.
