This is a story of the Ngarankarni (Dreamtime). A mother-in-law was sitting down making a hole for water. A snake came along and saw her sitting there. But the mother-in-law had her head down because she should not look at the son-in-law and did not see the snake which bit her. The water at blood rock is there all year round and Mabel has depicted this dark, deep water pool using a dark charcoal colour.
