About Red Butte Hill
This hill, the pink hill located at the top of the painting, represents Red Butte Hill in Texas Downs Station.
This country belongs to Churchill's family and is his traditional homeland. Churchill is now responsible for the custodial care of this country. The area is known as Ngarrgoorroon Country and is currently a cattle station lease. There are also significant interests in this country by mining companies. In the Ngarrangkarni (Dreamtime), the dog and the snake chased each other and fought many battles back and forth from red butte to Kununurra. the snake forced the wild dog back to its present place (the blue area) and the snake stopped at that purple/grey place, this place is also a hill, not far from Red Butte Hill.
Red Butte is located along the Ord River and is a very popular fishing place for Gija people.
Painted in 2001.
