About Gwion Gwion
This painting shows the Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw figures) that appear in rock painting. These mysterious figures pre-date the Wandjina figures which also appear on the rock faces and in this painting. The figures are symmetrical, at times with elaborate headwear giving an almost sophisticated and elegant picture. They also appear in hunting scenes, festive dancing scenes and with a sense of movement.
The human hand stencil is a symbol for where 'not to hunt'. He accompanies the forbidden hunting country with small Gwion Gwion images guarding the sites.
