About Pirrnawu - My Grandfather's Country
This is the country of Marika Patrick's grandfather, Gordon Barney. This place is called Pirrnawu on Alice Downs Station - it is Gordon's Grandfather's country. People used to travel through these hills from Alice Downs on the way to Turner Station (in the south) and camped here during the holidays from station work. Gordon Barney says they used too hunt for goanna and kangaroo, dig for yams and collect sugarbag. Barney was born on Alice Downs Station and worked there for many years as a stockman. He used to muster cattle through these hills to Stock Creek Yard.
