About My Father's Country
Marika Mung has painted the country of her father, renowned Warmun artist Beerbee Mungnari. Beerbee describes this painting, indicating that the white in the centre of the painting is ' big water hole, lagoon up from river side' Beerbee says that 'water stay all year round, big billabong.' Beerbee tells that the Bains River runs through this country explaining 'the river run this way'. Beerbee also explains that the painting depicts the swamp land that surrounds the river. Beerbee has lived and worked most of his life as a stockman working on various stations in the East Kimberley Region. Beerbee recalls 'they used to have cattle there near that Meerlani stockyard.'
