About Tropical Gothic - No. 11
Equatorial climes at times seem rather gothic, with fires occasionally raging on horizons, the smoke turning sunsets into gutsy red veils. Yellow dengue fever moons rise over mudflats where spiky plants pierce the dank goo and large lizards can be spotted in the scrub lurking about hunting peculiar alien insects. Sheer dark nights rapidly wipe away each evening, enabling stars to look like shiny stabbed holes in black-blue blankets. Under those holes loud fat fruit bats swoop around and squawk like bite sized vampires, occasionally getting barbequed on high voltage wires. Grotty guard dogs bark and slobber at anything that moves and strange grunts can be heard in the bush. Things you cannot see could kill you in the sea, little things pop in the mangrove mud while electrical storms saute your emotions and it can be too hot at times to think, talk, or even scrawl notes like this.
