About Nguraku
Gerome has painted his homeland area. He was born at Ilbili which is within the region of Miramiratjara, a powerful place of huge, convoluted red sandhills and an underground water supply. Ilbili is similar terrain and also has undergound water which is guarded by water snakes.
Gerome represents the unusually structured sandhills by the wavy lines in this painting and the water holes around the outside.
Gerome recently flew back into Ilbili on a helicopter trip back into country. He is immensely proud to be the traditional owner of this area. It was an emtional trip.
