About siha'e, taigu taigu'e ohu'o jo'o sor'e - fruit of the tree, pattern of a leaf and uncurling fern fronds
The lines that run through the work are known as orriseege or 'pathways' and provide a compositional framework for the design. Nerry has painted traditional soru'e or tattoo designs which she saw on her father and her grandfather's bodies. The designs seen here are ubiquitous amongst the Omie tribe however they have survived remarkably well within Nerry's family. The diamond design is siha'e, the fruit of the tree. The zig-zag designs are taigu taigu'e, the pattern of a leaf and the curls on their ends are jo'o sor'e, uncurling fern fronds.
