Dhambit #2 Wanambi Australian, Yolgnu, 1970-2023
Dhambit’s father is Mithili Waṉabi and is the youngest daughter of the artist. All her brothers and sisters are well known artists including Wukun Wanambi, Boliny Wanambi and Baŋgawuy Wanambi. She is a mother of three girls and one boy.
Dhambit's practice is primarily focused on her Marakulu Clan Saltwater Estate known as Gurkuwuy or Trail Bay. Her strong sense of composition explores the tidal movements this estate and her innovative use of the sacred sands from a ceremony ground known as Yalanba give her works a unique and contemporary edge.
Dhambit's works were exhibited in the ground-breaking exhibition 'Gurrutu' for Tarnanthi 2019 at the Art Gallery of South Australia whom acquired this installation. Following this she was offered her first Solo exhibition 'GUDULTJA – Maternal Oceans' at Vivien Anderson Gallery in Melbourne.
Sadly Dhambit passed away in early 2023, she was a kind, caring and compassionate community member who was loved by all and is greatly missed by all her friends and family.
