Renae Nelson Pitjantjatjara, b. 1994

Renae Nelson was born in Alice Springs and grew up at Papunya, Fregon and Watinuma Homelands. She attended high school in Adelaide and worked as an Aboriginal Education Worker at Fregon school, before being employed by PYEC for four years in Indulkana.

Growing up watching her grandparents paint, Renae is inspired by her grandmother’s country, Mamungari, near Watarru. Renae’s tjamu/grandfather on her father's side is Michael Nelson, a Walpiri man. On her mother’s side, her kami/grandmother, Manyitjanu Lennon, is a Pitjantjatjara/Yankuntjatjarra woman.

Renae's artistic career began in 2023, working with painting, ceramics, and illustration.
