Marie Brown Australian, Pitjantjatjara, b. 1975

Marie (Donna) Brown is a Cundeelee Mission baby, meaning she was born in Kalgoorlie but her parents (Cyril Brown and Dulcie Grant) were residing at Cundeelee Mission when she was born and that is where she had her formative years. After the Mission closed in the early 1980's people then moved to a newly formed community of Coonana some 100km away.

Marie went to school there and completed high school whilst boarding in Coolgardie. She then worked in the office at Coonana before a move to Tjuntjuntjara in the late 90's.

Marie joined many painting camps, helping support the old people and learning painting technique and Tjukurpa from the older women. She splits her

me between painting and working as a ranger with the Spinifex Women's Ranger Programme.
