Teresa Punami Mula Pimangka b. 1963

Teresa was born in a river-bed at Angas Downs in the Northern Territory. She is one of seven sisters, who were all born at different parts of the Seven Sisters Songline.

 

Her father was Johnny Mula, who was born near Watinuma, His Tjukurpa was Tjala (Honey Ants Dreaming). Teresa’s mother was Ida Mula and she was born between Uluru and Docker River in the bush. Her Tjukurpa was the Seven Sisters Story, which she passed on to her daughters.

 

Teresa is married to Ken Pumani, son of Mimili’s most celebrated artist, Kunmanara (Milatjari) Pumani. His Tjukurpa is Ngintaka. Together, they have five children: Anita, Brenita, Errol, Roxanne and Danielle.

 

Teresa has taught all of her daughters the stories of her mother, and they often work on collaborative canvasses together
