(Scholarly Weapons and Tactic Toys) I depict damaged soft toys. Some bleeding and looking aggressive with claws, spikes and exposed wounds. Perhaps they have been torn apart from too much love or perhaps they have had explosives hidden inside them. Children’s toys turned into evil weapons. Humans are as wild as ever and now there are 7.4 billion of us on the planet. Not an easy number of individuals to keep happy. Violence and fear do indeed work as control methods but I am one that prefers other options. Talking, reasoning, logic, empathy, understanding and negotiation all work as well but the secret weapon underneath these tools required to ease conflict and lessen fear is education.
Art can play a role in being a scholarly activity that helps join people together without too much bloodshed. Art can be a scholarly weapon. It can also be used as propaganda to fuel violence.
Into these works I try to insert rich images and ideas. A little similar to operations of a pearl technician who inserts an irritating pebble into a shell to eventually help create something positive like a pretty pearl.
