The lines that run in both directions through the work are known as orriseegé or ‘pathways’ and provide a compositional framework for the design. Inside the bands of orriseegé is the diamond design siha’e, the fruit of the sihe tree. This is a yellow fruit found in the rainforest and often eaten by Cassowaries. In the times of the ancestors Ömie people would chew the fruit, swallow the juice and spit out the pulp. The siha’e
design is sometimes also called vinohu’e, the men’s tattoo design of the bellybutton. The main designs are a combination of both siha’e, the fruit of the sihe tree and visuanö’e, the teeth of the mountain fish.
