This is my family's Country. I was born near a billabong. This area I have painted is Ivanhoe country where we used to walk, fish and swim when I was child. There was good bush tucker in the river too - lots of fish - those days were good, and we were free to cross. You didn't have to think about crocodiles. I love my Country. When I paint it reminds me of the elders who taught us how to hunt for food and tell us stories about our Country. Every weekend we would go down to Ivanhoe crossing to go fishing. The road trains always went across and up to Wyndham where they were loaded up onto boats and travelled across the sea. It used to make me feel sorry for bullock because I knew they would be slaughtered. I have painted this image in red. It is a special colour. Both women and men use it for dancing.
