Rene has painted the Kipara (Bush Turkey) Tjukurpa. It is a dramatic and sacred story and cannot be elaborated on as it is an important Men’s Site. Miil-miilpa (sacred and dangerous). What she can say must be said in hushed tones. The Kipara (Australian Bustard), stole the fire from people in the north and caused carnage as he travelled south, killing many bird people, men, women and children and cooked them up and ate them before heading down to the Great Australian Bite with the stolen fire. He intended to drown the fire in the ocean depriving people everywhere of fire but before he succeeded in completely dousing the fire a bird man swooped down and go hold of the fire stick. This man took the fire back to Warnan in the Ngaanyatjara Lands where there was much rejoicing and a great ceremony to welcome the fire home. From here the fire travelled on to Warakurna. The Kipara story travels from Warnan, Warakurna through Tjuntjuntjara right down to Eucla thus connecting the Spinifex traditional owners with Ngaanyatjara and Eucla through Tjukurpa.
