The picture shows in fine detail the water dreaming at Mikanji, one of the artist’s key sites, which is located in dry bush some way to the north-west of Papunya. The four arcs arranged around the circle on the mid-left of the canvas are old ladies singing the rain song: the wavy line is the rain coming down: the series of straight lines that are prominent throughout the painting are embodiments of the power of the water song cycle that animates the whole work.
