Old people taught us how to gather bush food and now we teach our younger one's. Bush Yam is dug up from under the ground, when you tap the ground with a stick on top and it's hollow, it has bush yam there. We dig it out and put them in a little bag and take it back home to cook. Sometimes we used to eat it raw or cook it up on the coals. If the vine has no flower it means the Bush Yam is ready to eat, if the vine has a purple flower it indicates that the Bush Yam is not ready to eat.
