Rain Makers and Clouds This is Reggie and Stewart’s Mother's Country (Emu Dreaming) at the beginning of the wet season. Country of Ngalanja . Billy Hooker the rainmaker... Grandfather - his country is called 'Wubunjawa'. He sang this rain. The first storms are coming, and the lightning is cracking. It was the main hunting and fishing place for the Garrwa and Yanyuwa people. The Garrwa/Yanyuwa people used to travel up and down this country. The day begins with the “Jurlayarriyarri”, Morning Glory. Dark clouds but no rain. Old peoples hunting time. Animals flying with it. Birds coming from the island to the mainland. Then comes “Kindilkurrinyi” – it’s the First Storm that you see in the long distance when rain is starting to develop. Bad lightning in that first storm... good time for hunting for yams and bush plums... no dreaming. “Karlajangku” is Rainbow Dreaming. Came through this country – early wet season and big wind. Then “Janja” – second storm... rain has come. “Mijiwaru” is the Wet Season when we used to have bark structures. That rain all night and all day. Five weeks or one month it rains without stopping – Big Big wet season. Yanyula and Garrwa mixed.' The clouds are full of rain, indicating that the wet season storms are coming across the sea. Soon we will have rain every day, maybe even cyclones.'
The yellow clouds are the first signs of the coming wet.
