This my Grandmother's country. Before the welfare camp Mardirini was set up, people were free to wander and enjoy country. The old ladies would cook what was caught that day around the campfirre . There was free trade with the Macassans, Sea cucumbers 'Tharribar' were traded for tea, sugar, our and tabacco. They would take people to see their country in Indonesia. Our people were fascinated by the Macassans and even made a song about their long hair. They were good friends and smoked and laughed together around the camp fire.
