Short St Gallery presents, Kapi, Karu, Munu Tjukurla – Rain, Creeks, and Rockholes by Raylene Walatinna and Betty King, whose exhibition evokes the beauty and awe that defines their ancestral country in two entirely individualistic ways. Raylene and Betty are esteemed Australian artists whose paintings celebrate the stories and cultural significance of their country - from the the dry plains that define Betty's paintings of Wantjapilla, to Raylene's arcing desert colours that travels the canvas as one moves through the land.
Through their paintings, Raylene and Betty articulate narratives deeply rooted in the traditions and stories of their communities, connecting viewers to the richness of their heritage and unique artistic eyes. In addition to enriching the art world with exceptional paintings of intricate design, Walatinna and King use their art as a platform to share how their unique perspectives offer insight into themes of identity and connection to land. As Betty says, 'I paint a special place not far from Indulkana. The Country there is full of good memories'.
