SPOTLIGHT ON LORRKON & CARVED ARTEFACTS: ARTWORKS FROM THE BUNGALOW
Current viewing_room
This week's Spotlight presents a selection of commanding wood carvings including artefacts, sculptures and Lorrkons (hollow logs) from across northern Australia, from Arnhem Land and the Kimberley region. These beautiful wood carvings are alive with craft and skill. The artists expertly create their pieces, harvesting wood and pigment directly from their community and surrounding lands, in the process keeping important cultural practices and lore alive. From the gravity and sculptural form of the Lorrkon through to the simple beauty of a carved coolamon, these unique sculptural pieces carry the weight of ancient tradition and knowledge.
Today's selection of Lorrkon and carved artefacts are distinctive statement pieces and honoured shared fragments of the artist's culture and beliefs. The selection includes work by well known artists such as, Ivan Namirrkki, Obed Namirrkki, Joe Guymala and Samson Bonson. Short St Gallery invites you to view this beautiful collection of artworks below. We are offering a 10% discount on multiple purchases from todays Spotlight, enquiries@shortstgallery.com.
