SPOTLIGHT ON CERAMICS: ARTWORKS FROM THE BUNGALOW
Current viewing_room
Short St Gallery presents a collection of beautiful ceramics from our Bungalow. Today’s stunning creations include stoneware from across the country, with each piece covered in intricate stories and patterns that tell the stories and Tjukurpa (dreaming) of their creators. The artists artworks are impressive representations of the 3D form, with intricate designs, tactility and a refined mastery of medium.
As each artist maps the surface of the vessels, the ceramics are elevated into unique and individual objects ranging from Rupert Jack's bold and tactile vases, to Carelene Thompsons sought after vessels often depisting Mamu and birds, or the representational and colourful works from Hermannsburg Potters. The artists use these stunning sculptural forms to tell their stories and the stories of their ancestors, allowing the veiwer to be engaged in the beauty and weight of three-dimensional objects.
