COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT : IRRUNYTJU: Artwork from the Bungalow

rrunytju (Wingellina) is a historically significant community in the Western Desert. Established near the tri state border this remote community has long been a vital platform for Aboriginal artists whose practices carry forward deep cultural knowledge and connections to Country. Their work is acknowledged for its bold visual language and cultural authority, with paintings held in major collections and celebrated in exhibitions across Australia and internationally.

Today's Spotlight brings together a compelling range of works, including a significant estate painting by the late Kuntjil Cooper, whose legacy remains central to the movement of contemporary Western Desert art. Alongside this are the distinctive painted metal cars for which Irrunytju artists have become renowned. And artworks that speak to lived experience at Maralinga and the enduring impact of that history, alongside cultural story of the Sven Sisters and important Tjukurrpa (Dreaming). Together, these works offer collectors an opportunity to engage with art that is both visually striking and deeply embedded in stories of resilience, memory, and place.
