ARTIST SPOTLIGHT : BARBARA MOORE: Artworks from the Bungalow

Barbara Mbitjana Moore is an acclaimed Anmatyerre artist who lives and works in the remote community of Amata in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands of South Australia. Moore’s paintings are instantly recognisable for their bold colour palettes, rhythmic brushwork, and sweeping aerial perspectives that capture the movement and energy of the desert landscape. Her work reflects both memory and cultural identity, transforming traditional stories and knowledge into contemporary visual art. Moore’s brushwork is particularly idiosyncratic and as Barbara has said, it is intended to ‘make the painting sing’.

Moore has gained national and international recognition, including winning the General Painting Award at the prestigious National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards in 2012.
