ARTIST SPOTLIGHT : ROMA BUTLER: Artworks From the Bungalow

Roma Butler of is a celebrated Ngaanyatjarra and Pitjantjatjara artist whose paintings are renowned for their rhythmic composition and powerful connection to Country. Roma is a senior cultural knowledge holder who draws on her ancestral and personal experience to depict the landscapes, rock holes, and sacred sites of her traditional lands - inviting viewers into stories that have been passed down through generations.

Each work reflects the richness of Western Desert artistic traditions while expressing Roma's distinctive style and tjukurrpa (dreaming).  Her intricate patterning has made her work highly sought after by collectors nationally and internationally. Roma has previously shortlisted for the Xstrata Coal Emerging Indigenous Art Award and featured in the Australian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015 for her sculptural work.
