Short St Gallery has been exhibiting artworks from Nyapari for over 18 years and we have seen the artists develop an extraordinary body of work. Nyapari is an Aboriginal community in the APY Lands in South Australia that was established by the Steven family and has grown to provide services to a number of outstations; apart from a small group of support staff Nyapari is populated entirely of extended family. Nyapari is also home to a small group of skilled painters whose focus is on working together to produce high quality culturally potent artwork. 

Their artwork is informed from a strong cultural tradition and artistic practice and an incomparable intimacy with the desert landscape. It transforms the viewer's understanding of this extraordinary country. These works are more than landscape paintings, they are visual narratives imbued with history, law and song. Short St Gallery would like to bring some of the power of the Tjungu Palya stories to your lounge room during these unprecedented times by sharing some of the artwork we have including pieces by Maringka Baker, Eileen Stevens, Ruth Fatt, Ginger & Iyawi Wilkilyiri, Bernard Tjalkuri, Teresa Baker, Angkaliya Curtis and their contemporaries. Tjungu Palya translates to Good Together, right now as a nation we are all working towards this.

In our efforts to continue to support and promote the industry we love and the artists we work with, all purchases of Nyapari artworks during the month of April will receive free shipping (worldwide). Short St Gallery will be doing Artist Profiles and Community Spotlights regularly with the occasional promotion, so keep your eyes on our emails for that little bit of something special.
