SPOTLIGHT ON : 3D WORKS: SCULPTURES, VESSELS AND WEAVINGS
Short St Gallery presents 3D artworks from across Australia, including artists working out of Arnhem Land; the Tiwi Islands; the central and western deserts; and the Kimberley. Sculpture has been a means of human expression since prehistoric times and many of today’s contemporary artworks continue to have a significance beyond the aesthetic, regularly referencing culture and rituals from the artists community. Contemporary 3D artists often also work to emphasise the beauty and nature of the materials they work with. Today’s selection features sculptures, vessels and weavings made from a variety of materials. From small treasures to statement pieces, some artworks are bold and beautiful, ripe with colour, other focus on subtle textures and catching the light or telling a complex story.
The clever techniques and skill employed by the artists range from the weavings of the desert, to the cravers from the north, to the story tellers from the Kimberley, as they embrace techniques such as carving, casting and construction. Many of the artworks can be seen from all angles giving them an original form and a level of interaction with the viewer that is multidimensional. This brings a degree of joy and excitement to three-dimensional artworks that employs the senses. Whether you are after a statement piece, a small gift or a treasured keepsake, todays spotlight is catered to you. Please email enquiries@shortstgallery.com to request a price list.
In our efforts to continue to support and promote the industry we love and the artists we work with during the pandemic, Short St Gallery are doing Artist Profiles and Community Spotlights regularly, often with a special promotion, so keep your eyes on our emails in 2021 for that little bit of something special.
You can access our fun View on a Wall option by clicking on an image and then selecting View on a Wall.
