SPOTLIGHT ON WOOD CARVINGS: MIMIH'S, ANIMALS AND ARTEFACTS
This weeks spotlight presents a selection of striking wood carvings from Short St's collection. The collection features mimih spirits, artefacts and carved animals from across northern Australia, including Arhnem Land and the Kimberley region. These beautiful wood carvings are alive with craft and skill. The artists harvest the wood and pigment used directly from their community and surrounding lands.
These unique sculptural pieces can be irreverent and cheeky, as seen in the mimih spirits and mokuys, while still carrying the gravity of ancient tradition and knowledge. Today's selection ranges from special keepsakes through to distinctive statement pieces. We invite you to view this wonderful collection of artworks via the link below. Prices can be requested via email on, enquiries@shortstgallery.com.
