COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: WARAKURA

Established in 2005 in the Ngaanyatjara Lands of Western Australia, the heart of the Gibson Desert, Warakurna's art studio runs several programs and out-reach workshops to enable the community to continue to paint on Country and share Tjukurpa (traditional culture and law) through art. With each brushstroke, the artists of Warakurna document the histories of Ngaanyatjarra and Aboriginal culture, recording of the Song lines embedded in the landscape itself to produce a distinct aesthetic within the broader culture of the Western Desert.

The art of the Ngaanyatjarra Land's unique aesthetic uses circles, dots, and lines to create compositions which are distinctive in their form, filled with assured brush strokes that signifies a confident and intuitive knowledge of Country. Warakurna's latest artworks are intricate and vibrant, utilising a palette of desert hues which provide a window into their respective Tjukurpa's, including recent work from luminary, Nancy Carnegie.

Short St Gallery is honoured to present these beautiful works and are offering a 10% discount on multiple purchases from Warakurna until the end of February 2023.
