Stacia Yvonne Lewis Pitjanttjatjara, Australian, b. 1955

Stacia Yvonne was born in the bush at Wankari near Docker River in the Northern Territory, a

significant place for the Kungkarangkalpa Tjukurpa (Seven Sister story). Stacia paints her

Country and significant landmarks, waterholes and associated with the Kungkarangkalpa

Tjukurpa. Her paintings relate to two significant cultural sites close to Irrunytju which are sacred

and important places for woman’s business and passing on knowledge. Lewis is an

accomplished tjanpi (grass) weaver and punu (wood) carver. She also creates beautiful hand

painted and hot poker tartu (gum nut) bead work.
