Janice Woods Pitjantjatjara , b. 1988

Janice Woods is the granddaughter of senior Pitjantjatjara Elder artist Maringka Baker and daughter of respected artist Elaine Woods. Janice Woods was born in Kaltukatjara (Docker River), a remote community near the Western Australia border in the Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunyjatjara (APY) Lands of Central Australia and now lives in the community of Kanpi in South Australia with her grandmother, husband and son. Janice and her sisters, Julie, Venita and Caseyanne have learnt from their grandmother and mother and the family often paint together.

 

Janice depicts the Minyma Kutjara (Two Women) story in her paintings with a focus on Mulpu, the Musgrave Ranges, which is an important site to Janice and her family.
