Nyanu Watson loves to paint Tjulpu (birds). Nyanu depicts birds, lizards, and insects native to the Pipalyatjara and Kalka area and important to local Tjukurpa dreaming. Nyanu creates stories for the characters in her work, they are families, husbands, wives and tjitjis (children). As Nyanu paints she tells the stories of family life, sharing food, looking for water, caring for young ones. Nyanu knows all the bird calls of local birds and speaks to them as her friends.
