Jason Palipuaminni Stormy Australian, Tiwi, b. 1979

Jason Palipuaminni was born in Darwin, grew up in Wurrimiyanga, Bathurst Island and attended high school at Sanderson High in Darwin.

Jason works with Red Cross and at the local recreation hall as a youth worker. His passion lies in teaching sports and Tiwi culture to the youth of his local community.

Jason saw his Uncle working at Bathurst, doing carving and screenprinting at Tiwi Design and decided to come and work at Jilamara in the dry season of 2016.

He feels like he has a lot to learn and looks up to people that have been here longer.

Jason wants to learn more culture from the Elders and put more culture into his work. At the moment, he enjoys carving and painting Tiwi wildlife.

He is becoming an accomplished carver at Jilamara, through mentorship from   senior Jilamara carvers Patrick Freddy Puruntatameri and Pius Tipungwuti.

Since becoming a member with Jilamara Arts and Crafts Association, Jason has started to develop his skill creating ironwood carvings and painting on canvas. His carvings are a comical depiction of the birdlife of the Tiwi Islands.
