Gail Napangarti Pitjantjatjara/Luritja, b. 1970
Gail Napangati has been painting at Tjala Arts since 2004. She moved to Amata to be with her husband but continues to carry the stories and painting styles of her original home, Papunya. Her works reflect her grandmother’s Country and differ from many others in the Amata region, drawing on the traditional designs of Papunya.
Gail is the granddaughter of Linda Siddock and comes from a strong artistic lineage, including many senior Papunya Tula artists. She grew up in Papunya, where she was taught to paint by her grandmother.
Her paintings speak to Country - mapping important places, waterholes, campsites, and areas rich in bush foods, especially the native grasses that can be ground into flour and made into damper. Her practice holds deep cultural and practical knowledge passed down through generations.
