Heatwave: The Women of Kalka
Short St Gallery warmly invites you to join us in celebrating Heatwave.
In the height of a series of heatwaves in early 2026 and late 2025, the women artists of Kalka Community in the APY Lands gathered to paint through days of intense heat, resilience, memory, and connection to Country. This exhibition brings together a powerful series of works created during that time by Carol Young, Cassaria Hogan, Elaine Woods, Anyupa Nelson, Angela Watson and Angkaliya Nelson.
The exhibition speaks not only to the physical conditions of the desert summer but also to the collective spirit of the artists. Through colour, gesture and story, each painting radiates with the force and nature of an Australian heatwave, and the immediacy and presence of the voices and visions that shaped it. Heatwave represents a dynamic and evolving generation of painters whose practices are deeply grounded in Anangu culture and the enduring and evolving landscape between people, land and community.
Short St Gallery invites you to view Heatwave via the gallery during opening hours or online 24/7. A catalogue can be obtained through enquiries@shortstgallery.com.
