WALYTJA - KINSHIP: Artworks From Anangu
Walytja - Kinship brings together the work of artists such as, Audrey Brumby, Ruth Nelson, Renita Stanley and Tjaruwa Dunn in a celebration of connection to Country, to culture and to one another. Across the exhibition, palette becomes a powerful expression of place: the warm reds and ochres of earth, the muted greens of bush and vegetation, the pale sands and the luminous blues of sky and water. These colours evoke the landscapes that hold memory, story and belonging, reflecting the artists’ relationship with their Country and carried through generations. These artwork are part of a broader cultural practice that strengthens connections to Ngura (Country/home), Tjukurpa (Law and philosophy), Walytja (kinship and relationships) and Kurunpa (spirit).
Walytja - Kinship speaks to relationships that extend far beyond the idea of family as commonly understood. For the artists, kinship encompasses the networks of people, Country, culture and knowledge that shape identity and create a sense of belonging. Their works can be understood as acts of connection: each artist bringing their own stories, experiences and visual language while contributing to a shared cultural space. Together, the works in Walytja - Kinship demonstrate how painting can hold Country close, maintain cultural knowledge and strengthen relationships between generations and community.
