Yayimpi Claudia Lewis Australian, Pitjatjantjara, b. 1979

Yayimpi grew up in Amata with her two sisters and two brothers.Her mother, Wanatjura (deceased) became a well-known artist late in her life painting at Tjala Arts in Amata.Yayimpi started painting before her mother in the late 1990's when Tjala Arts was called Minymaku Arts (belonging to women). Back then the art centre was only for women. She painted on and off depending on when she had time.Yayimpi worked at the Amata Primary school as a Teachers Aid and since moving to Blackstone, which is her partner's family home, she works forthe Blackstone Primary School as a Teacher's Aid. During the school holidays she likes tot ravel home to Amata to see her family.
